Evan Johnson

About Evan:
Hi, my name is Evan Johnson and I've been a member of the Etowah Youth Symphonic Wind Ensemble for around two and half years, while having just recently joined the Etowah Youth Orchestra this past August. I'm also an active member of the CrossPoint Community Church Orchestra and the Southside High School symphonic band, marching band, and jazz band. I love doing everything that I do and would never dream or giving any of it up.

1. How did your musical career begin?
I have a friend named Wil Bowling whom I've been friends with for years. In sixth grade, he suggested that I join the middle school band playing trombone. I took his suggestion to heart, and I'm glad I did.

2. Who are your primary musical influences?
I'd have to say that my main musical influence is Mr. Hal Murphy, my band director at school. He convinced me to join the CrossPoint orchestra, is constantly pushing me to become a better player, and always gives me musical advice when I need it. I'm very thankful for that, as it has to take some dedication after almost six years. Though in contrast to Mr. Murphy, Mary Pilkanis has also been a huge influence on me. She constantly tells me that I'm a much better player than I think I am (and tells me I'm stubborn when I disagree with her. Haha), supports me in whatever I decide to do with myself musically, and always somehow succeeds in making me feel better about myself no matter how horrible I've been playing.

3. What do you like to listen to when you aren't playing your instrument?
Chicago, Dream Theater, Led Zeppelin, Liquid Tension Experiment, whichever musical I find most appealing at the time, Symphony X, some DCI stuff, Journey, Foreigner, Audioslave, Boston, and the list goes on...

4. What are your hobbies outside of music?
I like hanging out with my friends. It doesn't matter what we're doing. I also like just sitting here at my computer, exercising, playing video games to counteract my exercising, and hanging out at the park until midnight.I like hanging out with my friends. 5. What has been your greatest opportunity provided to you because of your musical talent?
All of the different ensembles I've played in or do play in. The people I've met have been unforgettable, and so have the experiences that I've had with those people.

6. What are your favorite movies or television shows?
Fight Club was always my favorite movie, and my favorite television show is currently Family Guy.

7. You can have dinner with any four people, living or dead. Who would they be?
John Petrucci, Mitch Hedberg, Freddie Mercury, and a close friend so that at least someone would believe me. Haha

8. What are your plans after high school?
To hopefully be accepted into a college of music somewhere where I can pursue my doctoral degree in music performance.

9. Who is your favorite historical figure?
Bill Brasky. His accomplishments should, and probably will, always be remembered as being historical.

10. Describe yourself in four words.
Friendly, laid-back, stubborn, happy
