Anna Lane

About Anna:
I was born in Birmingham, moved to Gadsden when I was four months old, and have been living here ever since. I have a twin sister, Meredith, and a dog, Harry. My birthday is on September 11, which can be a sad day in my opinion. I am in tenth grade Gadsden High School, and play flute in the marching band. I began playing in the Etowah Symphonic Wind Ensemble in eighth grade. This year, I joined the Orchestra as principal oboe, and continue in the Wind Ensemble, where I play oboe as well.

1. How did your musical career begin?
In third grade, when I started piano lessons. Since then, I have moved on to play the flute, the recorder, and a short try at guitar. I continue with flute today, but I’m so busy with band practice, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble practices, and oboe lessons, not to mention school work, that I cannot possibly give each of them enough time. But my goal is to play as many instruments as I can.

2. Who are your primary musical influences?
I would have to say my family. All of my family either play an instrument, sings, or just enjoy listening. My mom and dad push me to work harder, and my sister supports me in all I do. My most recent musical influence is Dr. Davis, my oboe teacher at JSU. I started lessons with him three months ago, and have learned a lot.

3. What do you like to listen to when you aren't playing your instrument?
Soundtracks, mostly, like Wicked, or Phantom of the Opera. I have recently discovered Flogging Molly, an Irish rock band. And as odd as it may seem, I also enjoy Simon and Garfunkel.

4. What are your hobbies outside of music?
Going to the movies, reading Harry Potter, listening to my ipod, and looking at old photographs.

5. What has been your greatest opportunity provided to you because of your musical talent?
Touring England with the EYO.

6. What are your favorite movies or television shows?
My favorite movies: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter, The Phantom of the Opera, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Finding Nemo. Favorite T.V. shows: Charmed, ER, Law and Order, The Closer, the list goes on.

7. You can have dinner with any four people, living or dead. Who would they be?
J.R.R Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, my dad’s mother, and Peter Jackson.

8. What are your plans after high school?
Major in music and minor in Spanish. Not sure where yet.

9. Who is your favorite historical figure?
Benjamin Franklin

10. Describe yourself in four words.
Crazy, distracted, forgetful, compulsive
