10 Questions with:

Alicia Walters

About Alicia:
 My name is Alicia Lynn Walters and I am about to be a senior (THANK GOD) at Sardis High School. I was born in Gadsden, and I have lived outside of Boaz all my life. I began playing trumpet the second semester of my seventh grade year. While I was choosing an instrument, my dad kept pestering me (that's just how he is) to play the flute. Why? I have no idea. I took one look at a flute and thought,"Oh no, way too many keys. The fewer the keys, the better." That's why I began playing the trumpet. Since I began playing trumpet, I have attended many honor bands including Gadsden State, University of North Alabama, Montevallo, All-District, and All-State. I am also currently the trumpet section leader at Sardis. I entered the orchestra and wind ensemble during my freshman year, but I unfortunately did not finish out the year in either ensemble. After realizing how much I missed the EYO, I rejoined the orchestra at the beginning of my sophomore year and have been involved with the orchestra ever since.

1. How did your musical career begin?
 My musical career began when my dad pushed me to join band, since I did absolutely nothing else. After I became involved with the band at school, I realized how much I loved music.

2. Who are your primary musical influences?
Louis Armstrong

3. What do you like to listen to when you aren't playing your instrument?
I listen to just about everything. I really love Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, 3 Doors Down, and just other random stuff.

4. What are your hobbies outside of music?
Well, since I realized that my senior year is approaching, I have decided to play a sport. I suck at all things athletic, so I am trying out for the tennis team, which I think I can pull off. I am also always hanging out with my boyfriend, Eric, and my two best friends, Ashley and Tiffany. I am always either at the lake with Eric, or out shopping or at the movies with Ashley and Tiffany.

5. What has been your greatest opportunity provided to you because of your musical talent?
I have been able to go places and play with many talented people due to my involvement in music. Once, I was able to play under the direction of David Holsinger. It was so amazing to be able to work with such a great composer.

6. What are your favorite movies or television shows?
Some of my favorite movies are Say Anything, Ghost, Unbreakable, and Pirates of the Caribbean. My favorite T.V. shows include The O.C., CSI, Friends, Lost, and Gilmore Girls.

7. You can have dinner with any four people, living or dead. Who would they be?
Jesus, my grandmother, Keith Urban, and Johnny Depp (Ashley would kill me if I really was able to have dinner with him- she is in love with him)

8. What are your plans after high school?
After I graduate, I plan to attend Jacksonville State University and get a degree in Forensic Science.

9. Who is your favorite historical figure?
Leonardo da Vinci. His ideas were truly beyond his time.

10. Describe yourself in four words.
Simply perfection (not really)
