The Book Lady Saturday Reading Programs

Imagination Place is pleased to present The Book Lady on the first Saturday each month. The Book Lady reads to children and brings stories to life. Each session will also include an activity or demonstration. Our Saturday Book Lady programs are free with regular admission ($8 per person, free for children under 24 months, and free for our members).

The Book Lady programs begin at 11 am.


Saturday, April 1

Getrude McFuzz

This story recounts the tale of Gertrude McFuzz, who has one small, plain tail feather and wants big, bright, beautiful tail feathers. She soon finds berries that will make her tail grow to an enormous size when she eats them!

Follow-up activities: learn interesting facts about birds and enjoy a feather relay race


Saturday, May 6

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by John Scieszka

In this story the wolf, Alexander T. Wolf, tells his version of what really happened during his encounter with the three pigs.
Follow -up activities include: Will the wind blow it? Participants will guess which objects (crayon, pencil, rubber band, dice, paper clip) can be moved by blowing on them.
Participants will also create some beautiful artwork by blowing colorful paint across the paper using straws!

Why Mosquitos Buzz in People’s Ears by Verna Aardema

This story is a retelling of a traditional West African tale that reveals how the mosquito developed its annoying habit. A mosquito annoyed the iguana, who frightened the python, who scared the rabbit, and now the whole jungle is in an uproar because the sun won’t rise. The animals discuss the situation and decide to punish the mosquito.
Follow -up activities include having audience members re-enact the story while it is being re-read using props and instruments.

Go, Dog. Go! by P. D. Eastman

The story follows a group dogs as they work, play, and try to make it to a dog party!
Follow up activities include having audience members re-enact the story while it is being re-read using various props.
